In the 2024 general election we saw the power of our movement – our ability to reach politicians and force them to respond to our demands, and our incredible organising power that elected 12 out of the 15 Green New Deal Champions we campaigned for.
Together, we poured everything into electing our Green New Deal Champions, and making sure political leaders were confronted on their climate commitments every step of the way.
Now we can use all that we’ve won, and the power we’ve built as a movement to keep pushing this new government to be bolder, and to make sure they deliver for our planet, and our communities.
We’ve spent years laying the ground for our election success, but what we were able to do over the last six weeks is truly worth celebrating.
Volunteers across the country took time off work, packed their bags and headed to battlegrounds. Others got their living rooms ready for long evenings of phone banking.
From Edinburgh to Islington, Bristol to Brighton – countless days spent knocking on doors, thousands of calls made, cramped hands from stuffing envelopes and texting, infinite amounts of bravery mustered to challenge political leaders, every single pound spared by movement members to keep us going – it’s all lead to this moment.

In an election defined by voting against the Conservatives, our movement gave people a set of inspiring leaders to organise and vote for. Together, we elected 12 GND Champions.

These champions will work with our movement to drive Green New Deal solutions to the top of the agenda. And they will lead and organise a bigger group of green new deal backers in Parliament.
During the election, our voices were published across national press outlets including the Guardian, the Independent, Sky News, and many more. In fact, over the 6 weeks we were appeared hundreds of times in news outlet: and 8 times large newspapers printed our actions.
