No jobs, no homes, no future – that’s what it feels like growing up in Britain today.
One million of us are not in work or education. Even more of us are in insecure work – zero hours, short term contracts, low pay.
And all of us are scared for our future – watching wildfires and heatwaves rip through our communities as the climate crisis accelerates and politicians fail to act.
But look around. Our homes need insulating. Our buses and trains need improving. We need clean energy, restored nature and our communities protected from floods and heatwaves.
There is no shortage of work that needs doing to protect our livelihoods – and there is no shortage of young people ready to do it.
Our government can tackle the climate emergency and the crisis of youth unemployment at the same time by investing in thousands of good climate jobs, building a future that’s fairer, safer and more secure for everyone.

Our demands
We’re demanding that the government gets serious about tackling the climate emergency and youth unemployment crisis by creating a Youth Climate Jobs Guarantee: a nationwide programme of investment to create thousands of well paid climate jobs so that any young person who wants one, can have one.
These jobs will look different in different places and include work on both adaptation and prevention – from retrofitting to flood prevention and response, tree planting to river clean ups, solar installation to public transport upgrades.
From engineers and train drivers, to nurses and carers, there’s a role for everyone to help build a future that’s fairer, safer and more secure.
- Deliver a National Climate and Nature Service: a national programme of well paid climate and nature based training placements for young people across the UK, to help them gain skills and experience to build careers in tackling the climate and nature crisis.
- Focus current schemes like the Youth Guarantee on training and jobs that tackle the climate emergency, including expanding green apprenticeships, supporting employers to provide paid work experience and ensuring all young people can access the scheme.
- Mass expansion of green apprenticeships, dramatically increasing the number of apprenticeships leading to jobs in the green economy, such as electricians, heat-pump installers, retrofit workers, renewable-energy technicians, environmental engineers, forestry workers and sustainable construction.
- Invest in sectors that directly combat climate impacts – from people working on flood prevention and response to fire fighters tackling wildfires.
- Accelerate and prioritise the Warm Homes Plan to retrofit Britain – particularly in areas with poor-quality housing, high fuel poverty, high unemployment and large numbers of social homes.
Our plan to win
We need to build a bigger and stronger movement than ever if we want to make sure Andy Burnham delivers climate action, tackles inequality, and stops Nigel Farage getting the keys to No 10 at the next general election.
We’re getting organised in our towns and cities across the country – to put pressure on our MPs to deliver climate jobs and build our movement into the thousands.
And we’re taking action nationally to make sure our government can’t ignore the climate emergency and our futures, and are forced to deliver solutions that meet the scale of the crisis.
We’re using cycles of action > recruitment > training to grab attention, bring people in and develop our generation into an unstoppable organising force, building a movement with the scale and capacity we need to win the future we deserve.
